The soluble grades of Kollidon are polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP K) obtained by free-radical polymerization of N-vinylpyrrolidone. By virtue of its solubility in water and many organic solvents as well as its high binding power and ability to form complexes, soluble PVP occupies a special position among the synthetic colloids.

Soluble Kollidon are available in a variety of grades based on their K-value and weight-average molecular weight.

15.3 - 18.0 7000 – 11000 Same as Kollidon 12 PF. Additionally used as a lyophilization agent in injections and ophthalmic preparations
22.5 - 27.0 28000 – 34000 Medium molecular weight povidone used as binders in tablets, capsules and granules, stabilizers in oral suspensions as film formers, oral solubilizers, dispersants for pigments, enzyme stabilizers and as bioavailability enhancers
27.0 - 32.4 44000 – 54000 Medium molecular weight povidone used as binders in tablets, capsules and granules, stabilizers in oral suspensions as film formers, oral solubilizers, dispersants for pigments, enzyme stabilizers and as bioavailability enhancers
27.0 - 32.4 44000 – 54000 Special low-peroxide grade to prevent degradation of actives sensitive to oxidation. Other applications similar to Kollidon 30
81.0 - 96.3 900000 – 1200000 ‘Evolution’ of erstwhile high molecular weight Kollidon 90 F grade with an improved impurity profile with lower specified limits for parameters such as 2-pyrrolidone and aldehydes. It serves as a highly effective binder, stabilizer for oral and topical solutions, thickener, hydrophilizer and pore-former. It is also used as adhesive for transdermal systems
